Red and near-infrared light over the whole of you. $40 a session, 10 to 20 minutes, off Reese Blvd.

Red + near-infrared wavelengths. Eye protection provided. No heat, no downtime. Stacks with cryo and IV in one visit.

What is red light therapy?

Red light therapy, also called photobiomodulation, exposes skin and the tissue beneath it to specific wavelengths of red (630 to 660 nm) and near-infrared (810 to 850 nm) light for 10 to 20 minutes at a time.

Cells absorb the light, you feel little more than mild warmth, and the effects build with repeated sessions. At Hydralive Therapy in Huntersville, a session costs $40 and happens under a PlatinumLED BioMax Pro panel array positioned at a set distance above a padded table. You lie down, goggles on, and the light does the work.

What is red light therapy good for?

Pick the reason you're here. Tap to open the answer.

"My skin looks tired and I have an event coming up."

This is the use with the best evidence, and it takes time. In the controlled trial that measured it, people did two sessions a week for fifteen weeks. If the wedding at The Peninsula Club is in three months, start now, twice a week. No makeup, sunscreen or retinol on the skin before a session.

10-pack $250, then a second one

"I trained hard and I'm sore."

Lie with the worked muscles under the light, 10 to 15 minutes, same day or the next. Trials that applied light to the trained muscle found less soreness at 72 and 96 hours and faster strength recovery. Stack it after cryo in the same visit.

Single $40 · Red light + cryo $275/mo

"My knee (or neck) hurts and I'd rather not take something for it."

Near-infrared applied directly to a painful joint reduced knee osteoarthritis pain and chronic neck pain in large meta-analyses, for weeks after a course of about ten sessions. Relief is temporary and it works best alongside movement, so keep walking the Torrence Creek greenway. Talk to your doctor if the pain is new or severe.

10-pack $250, three times a week for three weeks

"I'm training for a race."

She Tris on 27 September, the Lake Norman 15K on 11 October, the Huntersville Half in December. Red light on the legs after long sessions, cryo on the heavy days, compression the night before. All three live in this building.

Red light + cryo $275/mo

"I've heard it helps with sleep."

One small trial in athletes found nightly red light improved sleep quality scores over two weeks. It is early research and we say so. Try evening sessions for two weeks and judge it on how you sleep.

5-pack $150

"I want to lose weight."

Red light on its own will not move the scale, and we will not sell it to you that way. If weight is the goal, the medical weight loss program is the tool, and red light can sit alongside it for skin and recovery while you train.

Is the red light booth at my gym the same thing?

Usually not, and the difference is the wavelength.

If skin is your only goal and you already have the gym membership, the booth there is a reasonable place to start. If you want the near-infrared half, which is the part that reaches a sore hamstring or a stiff knee, the standard gym booth generally does not emit it. Nobody within seven minutes of Reese Blvd publishes their device, wavelengths or session length. Now you have ours.

And is it the same as an infrared sauna?

No. An infrared sauna heats you. You sweat, your heart rate climbs, and the benefit comes from the heat. Red light therapy uses specific wavelengths your cells absorb with only mild warmth. You will not sweat, you can do it in your lunch break, and you can go straight back to your desk.

What happens during a red light therapy session.

  1. You arrive

Free parking at the door at 14229 Reese Blvd.

  2. First visit: a two-minute form

We ask about medications that increase light sensitivity, pregnancy, any history of skin cancer, epilepsy, implanted devices and pigmentation concerns like melasma. If anything on that list applies, we adapt the session or ask you to check with your doctor first.

  3. You uncover the area

Light has to reach bare skin. Shorts for legs, a tank for shoulders, nothing on the face for skin sessions. No lotion, sunscreen or makeup on the area.

  4. Goggles on, and you lie down

We provide the eye protection. Red and near-infrared are low-risk for the eyes, and we still ask you to wear the goggles or keep your eyes closed. The panels sit at a set distance overhead, and then it is 10 to 20 minutes of mild warmth and nothing else. People rest, breathe, or fall half asleep.

  5. You leave

No downtime, no redness, nothing to wash off. If you booked cryo too, cryo goes first.

How often should you do red light therapy?

More often than you think, and shorter than you think. The research protocols run three to five sessions a week for muscle and joint work, and two a week over several months for skin. Sessions are 10 to 20 minutes because dose matters: light has a sweet spot, and sitting under a panel for an hour does less than twenty minutes at the right distance.

Does red light therapy work? What the research says.

It depends on what you want it to do. Every claim below links to its study, with that study's hedge kept.

Skin

In a randomized controlled trial of 136 adults, twice-weekly red and near-infrared sessions over fifteen weeks increased collagen density on ultrasound and improved fine lines, roughness and overall complexion compared with no treatment. The improvement was measurable and gradual, and it took thirty sessions to show.

Sore muscles

A 2025 meta-analysis found light applied to exercised muscle reduced soreness at 72 and 96 hours and improved strength recovery at 24 and 48 hours. Published clinical recommendations specify applying it directly to the muscle at set doses, which is why the worked muscle goes under the light.

Joint pain

A meta-analysis of 22 placebo-controlled trials found near-infrared light applied to the knee reduced osteoarthritis pain by around 19 points on a 100-point scale at the end of treatment, with relief lasting weeks. A Lancet meta-analysis of 16 trials found the same for chronic neck pain. Both note the dose has to be right, and lower doses did nothing.

Sleep

A small trial in athletes found nightly whole-body red light for two weeks improved sleep quality scores. That is one study of twenty people. We list it because people ask, and we call it early research because it is.

One more thing, because it surprises people: photobiomodulation is an established hospital treatment. International oncology guidelines from MASCC and ISOO recommend it to prevent mouth sores during chemotherapy and radiation, and a 2025 dermatology consensus confirmed it is safe for adults and does not damage DNA. The wellness version is the same physics at a gentler dose.

Is red light therapy safe?

For most adults, yes. It is non-invasive, it does not use UV, and used as directed it has a strong safety record. We provide eye protection, and we ask about the following at your first visit.

  • Medications that increase light sensitivity, including isotretinoin and some antibiotics
  • Pregnancy (no safety data exists, so we defer as a policy)
  • A history of skin cancer, or any active cancer
  • Epilepsy or a seizure disorder
  • A pacemaker or other implanted device
  • Melasma or other pigmentation you are managing

None of those is an automatic no, and most of them turn into a short conversation at intake. Red light therapy devices like ours are registered with the FDA as low-risk wellness devices. They are not FDA-approved to treat any condition, and we do not offer this as medical treatment.

Is a red light membership cheaper? At twice a week, from month one.

Red light only works with frequency, so here is the math at the frequencies the studies used.

Pay as you go

  • Once a week: $160 a month, or $100 on 10-packs
  • Twice a week, the skin protocol: $320 a month
  • Three times a week, muscle and joint: $480 a month

Red light therapy FAQs

How much does red light therapy cost?

$40 for a single session at Hydralive Therapy in Huntersville, $25 a session on a 10-pack, and $179 a month unlimited. Across the US, single sessions at wellness studios and clinics typically run $25 to $75.

How long is a red light therapy session?

Ten to twenty minutes under the panels. First visits add a two-minute intake form. There is no undressing beyond what the session needs and nothing to wash off, so most people are in and out inside half an hour.

How often should I do red light therapy?

Two to five times a week, depending on the goal. Skin studies used twice a week for several months. Muscle and joint studies used three to five sessions a week over two to three weeks. Once a week is enough to try it, and results need more than that.

Does red light therapy work for wrinkles?

A randomized controlled trial of 136 adults found twice-weekly sessions over fifteen weeks increased collagen density and improved fine lines and skin roughness. The change is gradual and modest. It does not replace a retinoid or a procedure, and it will not do anything after one session.

Does red light therapy help with pain or arthritis?

Near-infrared light applied directly to a joint reduced knee osteoarthritis pain and chronic neck pain in large meta-analyses, for weeks after a course of roughly ten sessions. The relief is temporary, the dose matters, and it works best alongside movement. We do not treat arthritis or any medical condition. If your pain is new or getting worse, see a doctor first.

Does red light therapy help hair loss?

Scalp-contact laser devices at around 650 nm, used several times a week for four to six months, increased hair density in double-blind trials. Our panels are not that device and we do not offer hair treatment. If hair is the goal, ask a dermatologist about an FDA-cleared laser cap.

Does red light therapy help you lose weight?

Not on its own. Some contact lasers are FDA-cleared for temporary circumference reduction under specific protocols; panels and beds are not, and no study shows a session causes weight loss. If weight is the goal, a medical weight loss program is the tool.

Is red light therapy the same as an infrared sauna?

No. An infrared sauna heats your body and makes you sweat. Red light therapy delivers specific red and near-infrared wavelengths your cells absorb, with only mild warmth. You will not sweat and there is no recovery time.

What are the side effects of red light therapy?

Few. Mild warmth during the session, occasionally slight redness that fades within the hour. Eye protection is provided. People with photosensitivity from medication, active cancer, epilepsy, an implanted device, or melasma should raise it at intake.

Can I do red light therapy on the same day as cryotherapy?

Yes, and it is the combination the $275 membership is built for. Cryo first, red light after, about twenty-five minutes for both.

Does insurance or HSA cover red light therapy?

Insurance does not. HSA and FSA cards usually work for wellness services like this one. Check your plan's eligible-expense list.

Do you take walk-ins for red light therapy in Huntersville?

Yes. Monday through Wednesday mornings are quietest. For a specific slot after work, book ahead.

Is my first red light session free?

With any paid service on a first visit, yes. Book a drip, an injection, a consult or compression, and your first red light session and first cryotherapy session are included.
